My Creative History
I’ve known I wanted to be a graphic designer since I was eleven years old. I started researching careers at that age and I knew I had an art talent. The only career I knew of in art then was fashion design, and not really being into fashion I knew I didn’t want to do that. Then I came across Commercial Art (Graphic Design or Graphic Art) and I’ve never looked back. I’ve always loved print design. Since I was young I’ve taken packages apart and inspected ads, letterheads, newsletters, calendars, cd/book covers, brochures and much more to see how they were printed and created, folds used, inks and coatings used, as well as the paper the piece was printed on. It’s inspiring to just browse designs and layouts, colors, and fonts, seeing what works and what doesn’t.
Fine art is also a passion of mine. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. In middle school I realized I could draw portraits good. In high school I did my first pen and ink stippling (pointillism) of a historic building and have loved doing pen & ink ever since.
When I look at things I take in it’s shapes, colors, designs and shadows. I love studying things for example, I’ve always loved watching shadows. As a kid I watched shadows in the back seat of the car travel across the back of the front seats from the Moon or street lights. I like seeing how shadows change when the light source changes position and how some shadows are layered instead of hard or soft.
In middle school I first began to learn the computer. One of the first things I realized in that is it is possible to draw with them and create digital art – I’ve loved computers ever since. In college I did computer illustration for some of my projects and really enjoyed that I could create technical installation instructions or realistic product illustrations on the computer. Drawing lines and shapes, adding color or gradients and forming 2D detailed drawings is just so very neat.
Me Personally
I’m a Christian – My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 “I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me.”
I love Cats – they are so cute and each have their own personality.
I love Chocolate – especially Dark Chocolate.
My favorite Color is Fuchsia – it’s a bright, fun and happy color.
My interests include music, reading, nature, gardening, games, crafts, drawing and of course anything creative. With my love of how printed pieces are folded and the paper used – Origami has always been an interest of mine as well.
